One PA Endorsed Candidates

We challenge candidates and leaders seeking re-election to go further on standing for JUSTICE. We require candidates to fill out an extensive questionnaire designed by our members. A hard-hitting group interview follows, before our Political Committee makes final recommendations to our board for endorsement.

One Pennsylvania’s Political Endorsement Process/Info
One Pennsylvania believes that sustainable transformation lies at the coordination of grassroots organizing, popular education, and civic engagement. Our elected officials and leaders are responsible for allocating priorities, setting policies, and approving revenue and spending that affect the lives of millions of American’s everyday. We believe that in order to fight for economic justice, racial equity, immigrant rights, and sustainable and livable cities we need to not only recruit and elect progressive leaders but also hold them accountable to their constituents throughout their time in office.

The purpose of our endorsement process is to ensure that our elected officials understand and support our mission and vision and also to provide information regarding candidates for elected office and ballot measures including initiatives, propositions, and referenda to our membership. We endorse candidates who we believe will most effectively use their influence to meet our collective goals.

We endorse candidates who are committed to:

  • High quality and equitable public education for all students regardless of race, gender, class, and disabilities.
  • Dismantling the systems of white supremacy that built and still influence our criminal justice system.
  • Increasing the minimum wage to $15 an hour and ending abusive scheduling practices currently imposed on hourly workers.
  • Increasing access to healthcare for all.
  • Prohibiting discrimination on the basis of race, religion, sexual orientation, or gender expression and identity.
  • Corporate accountability.
  • Eliminating the disparate toxic contamination in communities of color and transitioning from inequity to environmental justice.

ONE PA ENDORSED CANDIDATES WHO WON

In 2018

One Pennsylvania mobilized thousands of neighbors, volunteers, and leaders to get off the sidelines and make change in PA. We vote, we attend local school board hearings, we speak at city council. We take the streets and we don’t back down.

We build deep, meaningful relationships with elected officials. This means we can stand with them when they take bold action to further Economic, Environmental and Education Justice. This also means we know their number and their office staff when they take actions against our people. Accountability, transparency and collaboration are key. Our members learn about systems of power, how to tell their own story and get the opportunity to work in coalition.

Moving our members into power includes supporting and endorsing strong community leaders to take office. We look for candidates who profoundly understand real community needs and center in values we share.

Our Partners

We work closely with partners who share our values to build Political Power from grassroots campaigns to win Economic, Environmental and Education Justice across PA.

Bring Your Voice

When Covid hit we had to invent a whole new way to reach our people and raise our voices. We expanded our leadership development and built in more political education for our people. We held regular monthly meetings over video calls.

We incorporated new technologies and old fashioned phone calls. We designed our own yard-signs, face-masks and ad campaigns.  Our people faced immense  loss and still did not give up or back down. In the end we reached over 800,000 voters in PA.
